Liverpool record emphatic derby win
Liverpool kept their top four hopes well and truly alive by beating Merseyside rivals Everton by four goals to nil at Anfield yesterday evening.
The Reds had the game won in the first half, after a header from Steven Gerrard and two goals in three minutes from Daniel Sturridge gave the hosts a 3-0 lead ahead of the break.
Top scorer Luis Suarez added a fourth five minutes into the second half to see Liverpool record their biggest Merseyside derby victory in over thirty-one years.
Suarez now has twenty-three goals so far this season, the same number he reached in the whole of last season.
Brendan Rodgers’ men are now four points clear of their neighbours, and three above fifth place Tottenham Hotspur who host Manchester City this evening while they are just six short of Arsenal, who only managed to draw against Southampton yesterday.
Third place Chelsea, who are three points ahead of fourth and being first place, host West Ham United this evening, while Manchester United beat Cardiff City to keep themselves in the chase for a top four spot.
Liverpool will now turn their attention to Sunday’s trip to West Bromwich Albion, before hosting Arsenal the following weekend.
