Liverpool looking to close gap with win over Sunderland
Liverpool will be looking to continue their unbeaten league run when they welcome a struggling Sunderland side to Anfield this evening.
The Reds can move to within just one points of leaders Chelsea with victory, while a draw would see them move level on points with Manchester City, who moved into second after beating Manchester United 3-0 at Old Trafford yesterday evening.
Manager Brendan Rodgers has no fresh injury concerns ahead of the game, and will need to decide whether to remain unchanged from Saturday’s win over Cardiff City, or recall Raheem Sterling to the starting line-up.
A Daniel Sturridge goal, and two from Luis Suarez secured a 3-1 victory over the Black Cats back in September, while the Uruguay international also bagged a brace when the sides met at Anfield last January, with Sterling grabbing the other goal in a 3-0 win that time around.
With the Reds having not lost at home to the North East side in over thirty years, the omens look good for them to continue with their fine home form.
They have won twelve of their fourteen league games in front of the their own fans, with their only defeat coming to Southampton back in September.
