Kompany Set For 6 Year Contract

The Belgium international Vincent Kompany might stay at Manchester City till the end of his career. The Sky Blues’ captain, who is 28 years of age at the moment, is all set to be given a 6-year contract extension by the club.

Kompany is regarded as one of the best central backs in the modern game. His performance in the heart of defence for City has been world class in the last 3-4 years. He has, in fact, stood out for the club in every season since joining in 2008.

Before signing for City, Kompany used to play for Hamburger SV in Bundesliga.

At the start of this summer, Kompany was being linked to the Spanish club Barcelona. The City management obviously doesn’t want any such thing to materialize and thus, they have decided to secure the services of their captain for a long time. They are believed to have offered him a weekly salary of two hundred thousand Pounds and the Belgian player is most likely to accept it.

In the meantime though, Manuel Pellegrini, the City boss, is looking for a couple of other centre halves too for future and he is reported to have already sealed a deal. According to the reports, the Chilean manager has had a transfer fee agreement with the Portuguese club FC Porto for the young French player Eliaquim Mangala.

Although City had managed to win the league title last season, they had issues with their defence on occasions and Pellegrini knows well that there’s some work need to be done in that area. So, he wants to bring a few new faces in who can be good back up options for Kompany when he is not available for selection.

As far as Mangala is concerned, he can play at the left back position too.
