Aquilani set for Fiorentina move?

Even though he has managed less than fifty starts for the Reds since joining the club in 2009, there have been intense amounts of speculation on Alberto Aquilani’s future this summer. It now appears there is another stage to the saga, with Italian side Fiorentina understood to have tabled a £7m bid for the midfielder.

Aquilani has spent the majority of his Liverpool career on loan, with both Juventus and AC Milan benefiting from his services. It would be fair to say that he tasted mixed experiences with both outfits, although the fact that neither have followed up any interest suggests that he was never a huge favourite in Seria A.

Following such loan spells, many people have questioned just what the future holds for Aquilani on Merseyside. The player has insisted that he has never been given a proper chance at Anfield, while Brendan Rodgers has also stated that everyone will be given a opportunity to shine. Bearing this in mind, there were strong suspicions that Acquilani could actually feature for the Reds this season.

However, it now appears as though there has been another twist. According to reports, Italian outfit Fiorentina have had a £7m bid accepted for the 28-year-old and are preparing to discuss personal terms with the player. Whether or not such speculation is to be believed is another matter though, with the player’s agent, Franco Zavaglia, insisting that his client is happy to remain on Merseyside and is unsure on whether or not Fiorentina could afford such a fee.

Zavaglia said, “We have not received any requests from [Fiorentina sporting director] Daniele Prade, but that was only to be expected, seeing as Aquilani will only leave on a permanent move and at figures Fiorentina cannot afford. I would rule out a current return to Italy. At the moment Alberto is relaxed and on Tuesday he’ll attend pre-season training with Liverpool, as planned.”
