Is there more business to be done?

Liverpool have been extremely active in the transfer market for the second consecutive summer, but even with less than a week to go before the window shuts, more business could be conducted before September 1st.

Brendan Rodgers has made significant improvements in the calibre of players he has brought into the club this summer, with James Milner, Nathaniel Clyne and Christian Benteke already making an impression on the Anfield faithful.

However, the Liverpool manager has been honest enough to say that the club are always in the market for players that will improve the quality of the team and help them achieve their targets this season, with a return to the top four undoubtedly top of the list.

The 29-year-old Poland international has been a wonderful servant for the Bundesliga side over the last eight years, but although his work rate and endeavour has endeared himself to the hearts of Dortmund fans, it appears that he may not be a regular start under new manager Thomas Tuchel.

Blaszczykowski would certainly offer versatility that would be very useful to Rodgers, as although he is more accustomed to playing as a right back or right winger, the Dortmund star is adept at playing anywhere on the pitch. With other teams rumoured to be keeping an eye on Blaszczykowski, Rodgers will have to act quickly if he wants to make the Pole his latest acquisition.

It would certainly represent another excellent piece of business if Liverpool were able to pull a deal off, and would undoubtedly be the best time for fans to take up a free bet offer and back the Reds to finish in the top four with any bookmaker they choose. It is always inevitable that an influx of new arrivals results in players who are deemed surplus to requirements or cannot be guaranteed first team football move on to pastures new. One Liverpool player who appears close to the exit door is Italian maverick Mario Balotelli, who has been nothing short of a major flop since he arrived at Anfield last summer.

Liverpool have made no secret of the fact that they have been trying to offload Balotelli all summer, and although previous interest in the striker did not materialise into anything, former club AC Milan appear to have come to his rescue. A season-long loan deal is close to completion, meaning Rodgers and everyone associated with Liverpool will be able to move on.

Brazilian midfielder Lucas, who has been a wonderful servant over the years, may be another player who departs the club before the transfer window shuts. Rodgers still holds the 28-year-old in high regard as a holding midfielder, but with captain Jordan Henderson and Emre Can flourishing together on the pitch, Lucas’ days at Anfield could be numbered.

Besiktas were reportedly on the verge of taking the Brazilian to the Turkish Super League on a season-long loan deal, but as the deal is now dead in the water due to a disagreement over the money involved, Lucas may face an agonising wait to see if any other club shows interest in his services.
