Agger wants Reds stay

Despite speculation surrounding his future for the whole summer, Daniel Agger has now publically stated that his preference is to remain at Anfield. The comments come just days after Brendan Rodgers said that the central defender could be sold should Liverpool receive a satisfactory offer.

Agger has been linked with a move to Manchester City in recent months and there have been plenty of reports suggesting that the top flight champions have tabled one, possibly two, offers – with the latest supposedly in excess of £20m. Bearing these reports in mind, it’s no surprise to see supporters extremely worried about the future of the Danish central defender.

Nevertheless, it would appear as though a move to City is well and truly off the agenda. Speaking in an interview, Agger has said that while Liverpool hold all the cards over his future, he still can’t imagine playing for any other club in England’s top division. He told the press, “I haven’t heard anything. That is how the club wants to do it. I would prefer to stay but that decision is not up to me at the moment. I can’t imagine playing for other clubs in England. But, you never know if the club prefers to sell me. Liverpool can do a deal even though I have two years on my contract.”

Despite Brendan Rodgers’ comments last week, it is still widely assumed that the manager wants to keep Agger at the club. There were doubts after he was left out of their recent first leg game against FC Gomel, but it was then revealed that the 27-year-old was suffering from a minor knock. Still, if City do decide to pursue the matter further, Rodgers knows that the club will find it very difficult to turn down any offers of significant value.
