Reds hopeful of more signings
Following the recent acquisitions of Joe Allen and Fabio Borini, there has been plenty of speculation about where Brendan Rodgers will turn to next. Fortunately, it appears the former Swansea boss still has one or two other players up his sleeve, with the 39-year-old confirming that he is still looking to add more players to his new-look squad.
Even though Rodgers has spent approximately £25m on Allen and Borini, he has at least managed to bring funds into Anfield following the sale of Alberto Aquilani, while he has also saved on wages after allowing Craig Bellamy to leave the club several days ago. Following on from that, most Reds supporters have been quite sure of more incoming players, although Rodgers is not giving anything away when it comes to the identity of his targets.
Speaking to the club’s official website the manager said, “There has been contact and communication with the clubs. The team of people behind myself are working very, very hard in relation to those targets. We hope that within the next number of weeks those will bear fruit. The work has been continual right the way through to try and get in players that fit the profile of Liverpool and the team. Like I say, I would hope there would be a couple more signings before the end of August.”
While Rodgers is clearly keeping his cards close to his chest, reports are suggesting that the club are contemplating moves for several players across Europe. The likes of Real Madrid’s Nuri Sahin and Barcelona’s Cristian Tello are supposedly at the top of the Reds’ wish list, with some newspapers even claiming that the club have flown managing director Ian Ayre out to Spain to try and orchestrate such transfers. However, with the new season just days away, it appears unlikely for any new players to be brought in before then.
