Rodgers keeps quiet
It would be fair to say that there have been plenty of transfer rumours throughout the last month about Liverpool, and things could finally come to a head on transfer deadline day on Friday. However, despite the 31st looming, Brendan Rodgers is refusing to comment on any speculation and says he will only talk to the press once a deal has been confirmed.
It could be said that this approach is slightly surprising, as Rodgers has been more than happy to talk to the press through several of his other purchases through the summer. For example, he was constantly providing updates on the acquisition of Joe Allen, while he also talked about the capture of Nuri Sahin before the transfer was completed.
Bearing the above in mind, there are suspicions that Rodgers does have one or two surprises up his sleeve.
Nevertheless, he has at least confirmed that there is nothing to report for the time being, telling the press, “There is nothing on any player. I will speak about a player after Friday if he is in the door. In these next 48 hours speculation and gossip will be rife, I could be here all day answering speculation. I have no need. We have got the end of the window coming up. I want to work with a tight-knit group between now and the end of January and then we can assess it from there.”
Despite Rodgers issuing such bland statements, the newspapers are still filling plenty of column inches with rumours. Arguably the biggest one at the time of writing is in relation to Daniel Sturridge, with several sources under the impression that the Reds could swoop in a £15m switch. There is also plenty of speculation about outgoing players and Rodgers is widely tipped to allow at least one player to leave Anfield, with Andy Carroll, Charlie Adam, Jay Spearing and Joe Cole all linked with moves out of the club.
