Jamie Carragher urges Jurgen Klopp to re-sign Philippe Coutinho
Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has urged manager Jurgen Klopp to bring Philippe Coutinho back to Anfield this summer. The Brazil international left the Reds to join Barcelona at the midway stage of the 2017/18 campaign, but the move has failed to work out with him struggling for form in the Spanish La Liga.
“I still think they can improve in midfield. I still think they could add a creative player. They tried to sign one last season in [Nabil] Fekir and he’s actually gone this summer for a lot cheaper. I said it before, I’d love to see Liverpool bring back Coutinho back if that was possible in any way. Obviously it hasn’t worked out for him at Barcelona. I just think that would be a great addition. You’ve got [Adam] Lallana and [Xherdan] Shaqiri in those positions but they’re not Coutinho. He would give something that they don’t have compared to City,” he said.
Throughout the summer, the Reds have been linked with several high-profile players including Coutinho but they have not made any attempt to pursue a new recruit. The same does not appear to change during the forthcoming weeks with Klopp recently stating that he has the likes of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Rhian Brewster coming from long-term injuries, who can act as potential new signings.
As such, the situation should appear a frustrating one for some of the supporters and it remains to be seen whether the club’s stance changes before the transfer deadline next month. The Reds start the Premier League season with a home game against Norwich City.
