Now that the transfer window has finally slammed shut, most newspapers have been concentrating on Liverpool’s poor 2-0 defeat to Arsenal on Sunday. However, there have been some other stories about the Reds in Monday’s headlines, as we take a look at some of the best.

Undoubtedly, most of the major papers are concentrating on a possible move for Michael Owen. The Independent, Daily Mail and Metro have all suggested that Brendan Rodgers could turn to the ex-Red in a bid to solve the club’s clear problems in front of goal. However, according to the Metro, Rodgers could have serious competition, with Sunderland said to be leading the race for the free agent. The paper have also said that Stoke are monitoring the situation, meaning that a return for Owen might not be as simple as first imagined.

The Independent have also reported that Brendan Rodgers is monitoring Didier Drogba’s situation. After leaving Chelsea during the summer, Drogba found himself moving to Chinese outfit Shanghai Shenhua in a very lucrative deal. However, due to various boardroom problems at his new club, his future has been thrown into complete doubt and it’s understood that Rodgers is making enquiries about bringing him back to the Premier League.

A further story circulating the headlines surrounds another former Liverpool striker. In an interview with Talksport, Fowler says that he is disappointed with the way in which the club handled the whole Andy Carroll saga and says that Brendan Rodgers should have replaced the player before allowing him to leave.

In other news, ESPN is reporting that Jonjo Shelvey is considering changing his allegiance to Scotland. According to the outlet, Shelvey is currently in discussions with the Scottish FA as his grandfather was born in the country. However, the player has stated that he will not make a decision yet, as he waits for a call from England in the future.
