ZUBIMENDI REGRETS REJECTING LIVERPOOL

Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi reportedly regrets turning down a summer move to Liverpool and is now eager to reignite transfer talks with the club. According to reports, Liverpool triggered the £52 million release clause in Zubimendi’s contract during the summer transfer window, but the player ultimately chose to remain with his boyhood club.

Zubimendi initially expressed interest in joining the Reds, but after discussions with Sociedad manager Imanol Alguacil, he changed his mind, opting to stay in Spain. The decision was seen as a setback for new Liverpool manager Arne Slot, who had identified Zubimendi as a long-term replacement for Fabinho in the defensive midfield role. Instead, Slot has since deployed Ryan Gravenberch in the No. 6 position, a move that has proven successful for the team.

Despite his decision to stay at Real Sociedad, Zubimendi is reportedly reconsidering his future and has reached out to Liverpool, hoping the club will make another attempt to sign him. According to **Estadio Deportivo**, the 25-year-old has told the Reds to re-enter negotiations for a possible move in the January transfer window.

In response to the speculation surrounding Zubimendi’s future, Real Sociedad president Jokin Aperribay recently commented on the situation. “There has been no conversation with Zubimendi to renew the contract,” Aperribay told **Noticias de Gipuzkoa**. “There has not been now and there has not been before. He did not put any conditions on us.”

Aperribay further emphasized that Zubimendi understood the situation at the club, especially as other players were set to leave during the transfer window. “He understood that it was a market in which some players were already going to leave, and he understood that it was a time to stay at Real Sociedad,” Aperribay added. The club has not yet engaged in talks about renewing Zubimendi’s contract, leaving the door open for a potential January move.

With Zubimendi still on Liverpool’s radar and the player’s apparent desire for a move, the situation could develop quickly in the coming months.
