In the papers: 9th October

It would be fair to say that the press were incredibly quiet in relation to the Reds yesterday and few papers were able to conjure up many stories about the club. Most simply concentrated on Sunday’s draw with Stoke and following that slow news day, Tuesday is more of the same. A lot of outlets are merely reporting on the whole Luis Suarez simulation issue, although there is at least the odd transfer rumour thrown in there for supporters to mull over.

Starting with the main story, Sky Sports managed to get hold of legend Roger Hunt and ask his opinion on Suarez’s alleged diving. As you may expect from an individual as reputable as Hunt, his immediate response has been to tell Suarez to stop the simulation and merely concentrate on his football. He also pointed to the fact that there have been problems at Manchester United in the past with both Cristiano Ronaldo and Ashley Young and after Sir Alex Ferguson resolved both issues, he sees no reason why Brendan Rodgers won’t do the same.

Perhaps one of the most surprising pieces of the day comes from the Independent. The newspaper has built on the possibility of Roy Hodgson utilising midfielders in his defence in the game against San Marino this week by questioning Chris Waddle about the whole situation. Waddle not only claims that Manchester United defender Michael Carrick would be a good option on Friday, but also says that Steven Gerrard’s game means that he could become a decent defender in the latter stages of his career.

The final story is perhaps the most interesting and originates from Forza Italian. The outlet is claiming that the Reds sent scouts to watch defender Andreas Granqvist in Genoa’s game gainst Palermo. The same outlet has said that Brendan Rodgers is keen on both the Swedish international and Angelo Ogbonna but will attempt to only bring one to Anfield in the transfer window.
