In the papers: October 19th
Even though we are right between transfer windows at the moment, it would be fair to say there has been plenty of newspaper talk about Liverpool this week. Unfortunately, the week is ending on a somewhat slow note in relation to transfers, although the club have still been mentioned in other reports as we explore here…
The first piece originates from the Star, with this source making a story about Celtic striker Gary Hooper. There have been several stories through the course of the last couple of weeks linking the former Scunthorpe striker with a switch to Anfield, although Neil Lennon has cast doubt on such a move happening. He claims that Hooper is not going anywhere and any club who is interested in his services should be prepared to stump up a huge amount of cash.
In other transfer news, the Telegraph have conjured up a report about Birmingham winger Nathan Redmond. The source is claiming that Liverpool have been tracking the England Under-19 international for some time and due to the fact that his contract has not yet been renewed, the club is just waiting to make a move. However, the same report also indicates that Manchester City and Tottenham are other interested parties.
Unfortunately, that is the end of the transfer news although Reds fans can still read more about their club in other regards. A piece in the Independent probably isn’t going to make for kind reading, with this newspaper stating that Jose Reina is a massive doubt for the weekend as he struggles with a hamstring problem. Following Fabio Borini’s recent injury setback from international duty, Rodgers will be hoping that he isn’t going to experience something similar with Reina.
In final news, ESPN have run quotes from Rodgers that surround Luis Suarez. There has certainly been plenty of attention about the Uruguayan this week and Rodgers has now stated that he thinks it will be tough for the player to win any sort of major decision with the referees watching his every move.
