RODGERS CONFIRMED AS MANAGER

It would be fair to say that the saga involving the appointment of the next Liverpool manager has been prolonged to say the least. A whole host of candidates have been linked with the position and while it appeared as though Roberto Martinez was all but certain to net the job, Brendan Rodgers then came out of nowhere and was offered the position.

There is no doubt that one of the big dilemmas on the Liverpool board’s mind will have been the compensation package that would accompany the appointment of Rodgers.

Swansea were most definitely shrewd when they tied down the former Reading manager to his most recent contract, stipulating that any club wishing to employ him would have to pay between £4m and £5m in compensation.

It now appears as though the Swans have been provided with an acceptable amount, with the club releasing a statement saying that an agreement had now been reached, “We can today confirm that a compensation package with Liverpool has been agreed for manager Brendan Rodgers and three members of his backroom staff.”

It is understood that Liverpool will hold a press conference at 1000 BST to confirm their new manager. Following the appointment, there have been several questions posed by Reds supporters on whether or not Rodgers is experienced enough to take such a high-profile position. There is no doubt that Rodgers, and the men that appointed him, will be fully briefed for such questioning at this press gathering.

The press conference may also clarify the director of football situation that has been hotly debated though recent weeks. It was thought that Liverpool wished to appoint a director of football to assist their new manager, with Louis Van Gaal supposedly being the front runner. However, with Rodgers allegedly demanding that he is in complete control of all on-the-field matters, this is another area where the press may sink their teeth into.
