220th derby ends goalless
Liverpool drew 0-0 with Everton in an uninspiring Merseyside derby at Anfield on Sunday afternoon.
The visitors had a goal disallowed when Sylvain Distin’s headed effort was disallowed as referee Michael Oliver adjudged Victor Anichebe to have blocked Pepe Reina.
The result keeps Liverpool in seventh position, five points behind David Moyes men, and five above West Bromwich Albion in eighth.
Elsewhere, former Reds midfielder Joe Cole has told TalkSport that West Ham United “definitely want to keep Andy Carroll”.
The £35 million striker has spent the season on loan at Upton Park, scoring seven goals in twenty-two league appearances.
Both the Hammers and Carroll’s former employers Newcastle United have expressed a desire to sign the England international, who has himself has not ruled out a playing return to Anfield.
Meanwhile, the club have been linked with a move for Brazilian defender Douglas, who is available on a free transfer.
The 25 year old, who has started 31 league games for FC Twente this season, is also a target for Inter Milan, while Newcastle United failed with a £4 million approach last summer.
The Reds have been linked with several centre backs in recent weeks, with Martin Skrtel and Sebastian Coates expected to leaving Anfield along with the soon to be retired Jamie Carragher.
