Reds receive Kalou boost
Since being told that his contract would not be renewed at Chelsea, there has been plenty of speculation regarding the future of forward Salomon Kalou. However, his agent has dropped the biggest hint yet that Liverpool have an excellent chance of netting the 26-year-old, saying that it is a “positive” for the Reds to be interested in his client.
Having made almost 250 appearances for the Blues since joining the club in 2006, there were several surprised faces when it was announced that Kalou’s contract would not be renewed this time around. At the same time, many of Europe’s top clubs instantly took note of the situation and it’s understood that the likes of Arsenal, Schalke, Newcastle and of course the Reds have been monitoring the circumstances.
Considering such competition, there were doubts amongst Reds supporters that they would be able to tempt the Ivory Coast international to Anfield. However, Kalou’s agent, Rodger Linse, says that Liverpool would be a very attractive opposition for his client. Speaking to the Liverpool Echo, Linse said, “Liverpool can speak for themselves, and Schalke can speak for themselves. That is fine. Of course Liverpool is a very big club, in terms of support and in terms of history. It is definitely positive to hear that a big club like them are showing an interest in Salomon, though it is too early to say anything definitive at this stage.”
There were initial doubts that Kalou wanted to stay in England, after the manager of Schalke said that as he understood, Kalou wished to move abroad. However, Linse has denied that is the case, saying, “In many ways it will be difficult to find a better place to be [than at Chelsea], but he is open-minded, and would be happy to continue in England if the right club comes in.”
