Reds need extra time to get past Magpies
Liverpool survived a scare to get past Notts County in last night’s League Cup second round tie at Anfield.
The Reds needed extra time to beat the League One side, after they came from two goals down to draw level with the hosts.
Raheem Sterling put Liverpool one up after just four minutes, before Daniel Sturridge doubled their advantage with his third goal in as many games this season.
However, second half efforts from Yoann Arquin and Adam Coombes took the game to extra-time, where Daniel Sturridge’s second of the evening, and a sublime strike from Jordan Henderson wrapped up the victory for Brendan Rodgers men.
The eight-time winners of the competition will discover their third round opponents this (Wednesday) evening, after the remainder of the ties are played out.
Meanwhile, Liverpool are keen on agreeing a deal for Paris Saint Germain defender Mamadou Sakho, according to the Mail Online.
The Reds are on the lookout for defensive reinforcements, not least due to the injuries sustained by recent arrivals Kolo Toure and Aly Cissokho yesterday evening.
Brendan Rodgers last night confirmed the clubs interest in Sakho, who has not appeared for the Ligue 1 champions so far this season.
