Liverpool knocked off top spot after home loss
Liverpool suffered their first defeat of the season on Saturday afternoon, falling to a 1-0 loss at home to Southampton.
The result, which was secured by a Dejan Lovren goal early in the second half, sees Brendan Rodgers men slip to fifth place after Chelsea, Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal all won to leapfrog them.
The club will now turn their attention to Wednesday evening’s Capital One Cup third round tie against Manchester United where they are set to recall Luis Suarez, who has now completed the tem game suspension he received for biting Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic in the 2-2 draw at Anfield back in April.
Defender Kolo Toure has been speaking of how the Uruguay international has been impressing in training, labelling the striker ‘a winner’, the Mail Online understands.
Elsewhere, Suso and Krisztian Adorjan were both on the score sheet for their respective loan clubs over the weekend.
Spainiard Suso hit a goal for Almeria in their 2-2 home draw with Levante, while former Red Nabil El Zahr equalised for the visitors.
Adorjan scored one of four goals in a thumping victory for Groningen over RKC Waalwijk in the Dutch Eredivise.
Michael Ngoo, Jack Robinson and Fabio Borini all featured for Yeovil Town, Blackpool and Sunderland respectively.
