Rodgers wants Maxi stay
After experiencing such a torrid time under Kenny Dalglish last term, many Liverpool fans thought they had seen the last of Maxi Rodriguez. However, it now appears as though Brendan Rodgers is desperate for the Argentinian winger to stay and is attempting to persuade the 31-year-old to remain at Anfield.
Rodriguez’s career looked all but over at the end of last season, after he seemingly made a waving gesture to the Kop on his final appearance. However, even though he was not a regular under Dalglish, Rodgers seems to be a keen admirer and has already made every effort to persuade him to stay. Unfortunately, it looks as though Rodriguez has already found a new club and after Argentine outfit Newell’s Old Boy’s confirmed a contract had been agreed with the player, it now look as though Liverpool are completely up against it if they want to persuade Rodriguez to stay.
Rodgers at least remains hopeful, saying, “I would love to have him here, I think he is a very good player. Whether it was starting or coming off the bench, he would be a very good player for our squad. He doesn’t speak the language, it has been difficult for his family. If a player like him, for example, wanted to leave, it would not be because of the club.. We will hopefully see where he is at over the next couple of weeks and hopefully find a solution for him.”
Despite Rodgers’ hope, the majority of Reds fans will already be resigned to the fact that Rodriguez will not be a Liverpool player next term. Most are probably more interested in what players Rodgers has lined up, with the former Swansea boss yet to dip into the transfer market since his appointment last month. Even though he has said he’s on the brink of completing a signing, supporters are still playing the waiting game.
