Allen deal one step closer?
Following weeks of rumours, it finally appears as though Brendan Rodgers has taken action on Swansea midfielder Joe Allen. It is understood that the Reds have tabled a bid for the highly-rated midfielder, with some sources claiming that the offer is in the region of £13.5m.
Allen has established himself as one of the Premier League’s top performers, even though he has played just one season in the top flight. At just 22-years-old, there is clear potential in the midfielder and many are looking forward to watching him as he takes part in the Olympic Games for Team GB over the next few weeks.
While Rodgers’ admiration for Allen has never been disputed, the logistics of such a transfer occurring have been. As part of Rogers’ appointment, it is understood a deal was struck which meant that he could not raid his former club for any of his old players in the next twelve months. Bearing this in mind, various media outlets have reported that the Reds have had to inflate their offer to at least make Swansea listen.
Despite the above, most people have been fairly convinced that Allen sees his future at Anfield. While his agent did claim that the player had not submitted a formal transfer request, the general consensus is that Allen is in favour of a move to Liverpool. This means that the clause that was seemingly hindering such a move probably wasn’t too much of an obstacle anyway.
The exact details of the transfer have not been made clear. Some sources claim that a fee of £13.5m has been agreed, while others are stating that Liverpool will have to improve their bid to closer to the £15m valuation Swansea have on the player. However, whatever the transfer fee, it certainly appears as though Joe Allen is edging closer to being a Liverpool player.
