Barnes: Reds should sell Suarez
Liverpool legend John Barnes has urged his former club to part company with want-away striker Luis Suarez as soon as possible, the Metro has reported.
The Uruguay international has recently been the subject of two bids from Arsenal, who remain hopeful of striking a deal for the 26 year old, though the Reds are reluctant to begin negotiations.
However Barnes, who made over three hundred league appearances in ten years on Merseyside, believes the club should cash in an reinvest the funds while they still have time ahead of the new season.
On the other hand, winger Stewart Downing is desperate for Suarez to make a dramatic U-turn on his decision and help the club break back in to the Champions League qualification places, the Mirror understands.
Elsewhere, the club are hoping to secure a season-long loan deal for Benfica defender Lorenzo Melgarejo, according to the Mirror.
Manager Brendan Rodgers is keen to provide current first choice left-back Jose Enrique with some competition, and has identified the one-time Paraguay international as his top target.
The Reds are likely to request a £9m clause in the 22 year olds contract that would give them first option to make the move permanent next summer.
