Bellamy backs Rodgers
Having taken over at Liverpool just several weeks ago, Brendan Rodgers has been shown an incredible amount of support. The latest person to be offering praise is one of his own players, with Craig Bellamy stating that Rodgers and Liverpool could be a “match made in heaven”.
Bellamy, whose future is somewhat uncertain at Anfield at the moment, says that he has been thoroughly impressed with what Rodgers has achieved in his career so far. Speaking to the Daily Post, the former Blackburn forward said, “What he has done at Swansea is nothing short of remarkable. Swansea had it in place because Roberto Martinez built a structure. So everything around the club was brilliant for Brendan Rodgers – but didn’t he grasp it and stamp his authority on it.
Liverpool is not that far away from having that structure. He knows he’s coming into one of the most remarkable football clubs in the world but it is a chance he deserves. I feel if he can approach this job in the way he did at Swansea then it will be a match made in heaven.”
However, whether Bellamy will be part of Rodgers’ plans is another matter entirely. At 32-years-old, Bellamy is no longer regarded as the same player he was several years ago and he has also attracted the attention of other clubs. It is understood that Cardiff are contemplating a bid for him after they were recently taken over, and Bellamy could be open to a move to his hometown club after spending a successful period on loan there a couple of years ago.
The most likely outcome for Bellamy is that he will have time to prove his worth to Liverpool. Rodgers has stated in numerous interviews that everyone, even if they did not appear to have a future at Anfield, will have a chance to stake a claim for a place.
