BRENTFORD SIGN SEPP VAN DEN BERG

Brentford have secured the signing of Sepp van den Berg from Liverpool in a deal that could be worth up to £25 million. The Bees have agreed to pay an initial £20 million, with an additional £5 million in future add-ons for the Dutch centre-back, who has signed a five-year contract with the club.

Van den Berg completed his medical on Wednesday evening, finalizing his move to Brentford despite interest from Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen. The 21-year-old becomes Thomas Frank’s fifth signing of the summer, joining a list of new arrivals that includes Fabio Carvalho, also formerly of Liverpool, Igor Thiago, Benjamin Fredrick, and Julian Eyestone.

Van den Berg originally joined Liverpool in 2019 in a £4.4 million deal. However, his time at Anfield saw limited first-team opportunities, with the defender making just four senior appearances over five seasons. His move to Brentford marks a significant step in his career, offering him the chance to establish himself as a regular starter in the Premier League.

Brentford manager Thomas Frank expressed his satisfaction with the signing, describing Van den Berg as a key addition to the squad. “I’m very pleased that we have managed to sign Sepp,” Frank said. “I think this is a great signing for the club and the team. Sepp is a centre-back with a good level and he has the potential to develop even further.”

Frank emphasized that Van den Berg’s qualities make him an ideal fit for Brentford’s style of play. “He fits our culture and the way we want to play: he is quick, he reads the game well, and he is composed on the ball in the build-up and in decisive defending actions,” Frank added. “Sepp is a great character, and I am convinced that he will fit in well with the group and help us to push forward.”

Van den Berg’s arrival strengthens Brentford’s defensive options as they prepare for the upcoming Premier League season. The club has been active in the transfer market, and the addition of Van den Berg signals their ambition to continue competing at a high level. With his blend of youth, experience, and potential, Van den Berg is expected to play a crucial role in Brentford’s plans moving forward.

As Brentford’s summer signings settle in, fans will be eager to see how Van den Berg and his new teammates contribute to the team’s performance on the pitch. The Dutch defender’s decision to choose Brentford over other suitors, including a top Bundesliga side, underscores the growing appeal of Thomas Frank’s project at the West London club.
