Five Reds start for England, with Sturridge the match winner
Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge fired a late winner as England beat Denmark at Wembley last night, in the final game before Roy Hodgson names his provisional World Cup Squad.
The former Chelsea and Manchester City, who man was one of five Reds players to be selected by Hodgson for the friendly, headed in from Adam Lallana’s cross for his twelfth goal in as many games to all but assure himself of a place on the plane to Brazil, barring any unfortunate circumstances.
Captain Steven Gerrard, Jordan Henderson, Raheem Sterling and Glen Johnson all also started the match, as did Daniel Agger for the Danes.
Meanwhile, Johnson has revealed that he has not yet been offered a new contract at Anfield, according to the Express.
The full-back, who won a landmark fiftieth international cap last night, is set to enter the final year of his current deal at the end of the season.
He is keen to pledge his future to Brendan Rodgers’ side, though talks of an extension are yet to commence.
The 29 has also denied claims that the club are unwilling to offer him a deal on his current wages, which, according to the Mirror, are around £139,000 per week.
