Gerrard tips Sterling for World Cup berth
Steven Gerrard has backed Raheem Sterling to join him at the World Cup finals in Brazil, according to ESPN.
The 19 year old winger he established himself as a key part of Brendan Rodgers’ squad having made his tenth consecutive appearance for the Reds in Sunday’s 5-3 win over Stoke City.
He has just one full international cap, but is a regular in Gareth Southgate’s U21 side having played in the last three European Championship qualifiers.
With Arsenal forward Theo Walcott ruled out of the tournament, England skipper Gerrard believes that Sterling can take his fine club form onto the biggest stage this summer.
Meanwhile, Spanish side Granada are set to make a loan move for Tiago Ilori, the Daily Star understands.
The Portugal U21 international, who joined from Sporting in the summer, is yet to make an appearance for the Reds.
Elsewhere, Championship side Nottingham Forest are set to offer Jamaal Lascelles a new contract in an attempt to stave of interest from Premier League suitors.
