Henderson joins Gerrarad in the treatment room
Liverpool have been left with just two fully fit senior midfielders in the lead up to Christmas, with Jordan Henderson now joining their already extensive injury list, the Mirror understands.
The England international had his ankle damaged in a nasty clash with Kevin Nolan in the Reds’ victory over West Ham United on Saturday afternoon, and joins captain Steven Gerrard, Daniel Sturridge, Jose Enrique, Daniel Agger and Sebastien Coates on the side-lines.
The news leaves manager Brendan Rodgers with just Joe Allen and Lucas to select from in centre midfield for Sunday’s clash with Tottenham Hotspur, while Henderson will hopefully be fit for the visit of Cardiff City the following weekend.
Meanwhile, Atletico Madrid have joined the race to secure the services of Pepe Reina, according to the Mirror.
The goalkeeper, who is currently on loan at Serie A side Napoli, is attracting interest from a number of top European clubs, with a return to Barcelona also potentially on the cards for the 31 year old.
The Spain international is set to keep goal for tomorrow evening’s crucial Champions League clash with Premier League leaders Arsenal, where victory could ensure their progress into the knockout stages of the competition.
