In the papers: 23 October
It would be fair to say that there was little to report in Monday’s newspapers and unfortunately, the same is occurring for Tuesday. It seems as though the rumours have completely dried up this week, although there are at least three stories to report from various media sources for the day.
We’ll firstly start with a story that really cannot be taken seriously and funnily enough, it once again focusses on Steven Gerrard. Just one day after we highlighted one report that had Daniel Craig tipping Gerrard as a potential James Bond, the Metro has now run a story about him featuring in a commemorative edition of Where’s Wally? In fact, it’s not just Gerrard that is included in the sketch, but fellow Red Glen Johnson is also included. The likes of Frank Lampard, Joe Hart, Kelly Smith and Faye White are also hidden into the picture, which has been released to celebrate 25 years of the children’s concept.
The ESPN Star is another outlet that have published a story on the Reds. This one focusses around Raheem Sterling, with Brendan Rodgers telling the source that the youngster must stay hungry if he is going to continue to be a success at Anfield. He has urged his starlet to not get carried away with the constant press attention that keeps heading his way and instead build on the effort that has helped him get to this stage of his Anfield career.
However, it’s probably the Daily Star which is running the best story. This source claims that Rodgers will be launching a bid for the highly-rated Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, who currently plays for Schalke. This newspaper has claimed that the Reds are on alert after the player’s contract talks with the German outfit were postponed until later in the year.
