Liverpool begin Suarez contract talks
Liverpool have opened preliminary talks with Luis Suarez over a new contract, Sky Sports understands.
The club’s Managing Director Ian Ayre flew out to Barcelona on Wednesday to begin discussions with the striker’s agent Pere Guardiola.
However, negotiations are set to take some time with the 26 year old likely to wait until Liverpool have, or haven’t qualified for next seasons Champions League before he puts pen to paper.
The Uruguay international has been in the form of his life since returning from his ten game suspension, scoring seventeen goals in just eleven league appearances.
Meanwhile, former Reds striker Michael Owen claims that Brendan Rodgers has money to spend when the transfer window reopens next month, according to the Daily Star.
The club have been linked with a move for a new striker, with Olympiakos’s Kostas Mitroglou one of a number of proposed targets.
There has also been talk of a move for Burnley forward Danny Ings, but as yet there has been no contact between the clubs, the Express understands.
Ings has hit fifteen goals in twenty-tree appearances for the Clarets this season, whilst he has also broke into the England U21 set-up, scoring twice in two games for Gareth Southgate’s side.
