LIVERPOOL EYE SHOCK CHIESA MOVE
Liverpool are reportedly considering a surprise move for Juventus winger Federico Chiesa, marking an unexpected turn in their transfer strategy. While it remains uncertain if the initial contact between the clubs will lead to formal talks and a bid before the transfer window closes, Liverpool’s scouting team is said to be keen on the 27-year-old Italian international.
Chiesa has recently been linked with Chelsea and Barcelona, making Liverpool’s interest particularly surprising given their already strong attacking lineup. With Mohamed Salah, Luis Díaz, and Diogo Jota all starting the season in excellent form, and Darwin Núñez and Cody Gakpo providing experienced backup, it was not anticipated that Liverpool would be seeking reinforcements in this area.
So far, the club has primarily focused on bolstering their midfield, particularly in their pursuit of a number six, as well as scouting potential center-backs. On Monday, they agreed to a £30 million deal for Georgian goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili from Valencia. Pending a medical, Mamardashvili will become the first signing of the Arne Slot era, though he will return to Valencia on loan for the remainder of the season.
The potential move for Chiesa is intriguing, especially given his previous valuation of around £100 million three years ago. However, his market value has likely decreased due to a series of injuries that have hindered his ability to maintain full fitness. Despite these setbacks, Chiesa remains a player of significant pedigree, which could make him an attractive option for Liverpool if the price is right.
Adding Chiesa to the squad would give Arne Slot six quality options for the front three, but it would also raise questions about the hierarchy among the current attackers. Sporting director Richard Hughes mentioned earlier in the summer that Liverpool would be “opportunistic” in the transfer market, and Chiesa might be a talent they simply cannot ignore if Juventus is willing to negotiate.
While the move is not yet certain, Liverpool’s interest in Chiesa suggests that they are prepared to make strategic additions to strengthen the squad further. With just days left before the transfer deadline, the next steps Liverpool take will determine whether Chiesa becomes a surprise addition to their attacking arsenal.
