Liverpool go top with victory over United
Liverpool reclaimed top spot in the Premier League with victory over Manchester United at Anfield.
As in the clubs two previous games, a Daniel Sturridge goal was enough to secure the points for the Reds, whose start to the season is their best in nineteen years, and a fitting tribute to mark the 100th anniversary of the birth of legendary former manager Bill Shankly.
Elsewhere, the club have had a strong start to transfer deadline day by securing the services of defensive duo Tiago Ilori and Mamadou Sakho.
Ilori, who has represented Portugal at U18, U19 and U20 level though he is eligible for the England senior team having been born in London while Sakho has fourteen caps for France.
The Reds have also signed Chelsea winger Victor Moses on a season-long loan, and the Nigeria international, along with Ilori and Sakho, were in attendance for the victory at Anfield yesterday afternoon.
One player moving out of Anfield, albeit temporarily is Fabio Borini, who is set to join Sunderland on loan.
The Italian will become his countryman Paolo Di Canio’s thirteenth signing of the summer, and will be keen to get some game time having made just five league starts since joining Liverpool from Roma last summer, though his debut season on Merseyside was plagued by injury.
