Liverpool to discover Alonso fate
Liverpool are set to find out if they have any chance of re-signing Xabi Alonso from Real Madrid in two to three weeks, according to the Daily Star.
The Spain international’s contract at the Bernabeu is set to expire at the end of the season, and a move to the Premier League has been touted with Chelsea and Manchester United also reportedly interested.
However, the Spanish giants have told the midfielder that they are keen on renewing his contract but as yet there have been no negotiations.
The 32 year old made over two hundred appearances for the Reds between 2004 and 2009, lifting the FA Cup, Champions League and Super Cup before moving to the Spanish capital.
He was part of Spain’s victorious squads for the European Championships in both 2008 and 2012 and for the World Cup winning party in 2010, and with 109 caps is fifth on the list of all time appearances for the country.
Meanwhile, the club will also battle with Chelsea and United for the services of Nemanja Matic, according to the Express.
Paris Saint Germain are also said to be interested in the Benfica midfielder, who played a key role in the Portuguese side getting to last season’s Europa League final.
