Reds close in on Aspas
Liverpool will complete a deal for Celta Vigo striker Iago Aspas within the next 48 hours, ESPN understands.
The 25 year old scored 12 goals in 34 La Liga appearances last season to help his side beat relegation.
A fee in the region of £7.7m was agreed between the sides last week, and the player is expected on Merseyside for a medical in due course.
Aspas’ arrival will be welcomed by Reds supporters, with uncertainty hanging over the future of both Andy Carroll and Luis Suarez, and with Daniel Sturridge likely to miss the start of the new campaign having picked up an injury on international duty last week.
Meanwhile, the Reds have been alerted to news that Sunderland goalkeeper Simon Mignolet is set to turn down an offer of a new deal at the Stadium of Light.
The Belgian internationals agent Nico Vaesen told the Sunderland Echo that it is “very unlikely that he will sign a new contract”.
The 25 year old shot-stopper is keen to improve his international credentials ahead of next summer’s World Cup, with Atletico Madrid loanee Thibaut Courtois vying for the Belgium number one shirt.
Arsenal are also thought to be interested in the 25 year old, who kept eleven clean sheets in the Premier League last season.
