Reds in for Lukaku
Liverpool have been linked with a shock move for Chelsea’s Romelu Lukaku regardless of Luis Suarez’s Anfield future, according to the Daily Star.
The Belgian international impressed on loan with West Bromwich Albion last season, scoring 17 goals in 35 league appearances.
Borussia Dortmund, Swansea City and Arsenal are also said to be interested in the 20 year old, who has been likened to former Chelsea star Didier Drogba.
Sources in Spain suggest that Brendan Rodgers is considering a move for Lukaku as he sees him as someone who could ‘compliment or replace’ Suarez, who has been linked with a £40 million move to Real Madrid.
Meanwhile, the Reds have also been strongly linked with a move for Porto winger Christian Atsu.
Liverpool’s chances of securing the services of the 21 year old, who has been capped nine times by Ghana, appear to have been enhanced as the player has rejected the offer of a new contract with the Portuguese Premeira Liga winners, according to the Metro.
Elsewhere, Stoke City chairman Peter Coates has said that he will not stand in the way of Asmir Begovic leaving the club to join Liverpool or Chelsea.
The Bosnian goalkeeper has been strongly linked with a move to Anfield amid rumours that Pepe Reina may return to Barcelona.
