Reina writes open letter to Liverpool fans
Pepe Reina has published an emotional open letter on his personal website thanking the Liverpool fans for their support following his loan move to Napoli, the Daily Mail has reported.
The Spain international has insisted that he was keen to sign a new contract at Anfield, and would have only been tempted to move to Barcelona should they have come calling.
Whilst looking forward to reuniting with former manager and friend Rafael Benitez, it is clear what Liverpool means to the 30 year old, who moves on with a heavy heart.
He stated his admiration for the fight for justice for the 96 people who lost their lives at Hillsborough, whilst going on to say that his favourite moment in a Liverpool shirt was his celebration following David Ngog’s late goal against Manchester United, where Reina ran the length of the pitch to celebrate with his teammate while his only regret is the way that he has left the club.
Meanwhile, the Reds wrapped up the preseason tour with a comfortable 3-0 victory over Thailand.
Goals from Philippe Coutinho, Iago Aspas and Steven Gerrard wrapped up the win for the Reds, who’s next match is on Saturday, against Olympiakos in Gerrard’s testimonial.
