Rodgers: Suarez “champing at the bit”
Brendan Rodgers has revealed that Luis Suarez is ‘champing at the bit’ ahead of his expected return to first team action, the Telegraph understands.
The Uruguay striker has now completed the ten game suspension he received for biting Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic at Anfield back in April, and is in contention for tomorrow’s Capital One Cup third round tie against Manchester United.
However, Daniel Agger is set to miss the game with the rib injury he picked up in Saturday’s defeat to Southampton – the clubs first loss of the season.
Meanwhile, Philippe Coutinho is hoping to return to first team action as soon as possible, Sky Sports has reported.
The Brazil international is currently out with a shoulder problem, though he has revealed that the surgery he underwent was successful.
Elsewhere, Glen Johnson has been told that he must take a pay-cut if he is to sign a new contract at Anfield, according to the Mirror.
The England international is currently on £139,000 per week, but will not be offered as much this time around.
His current deal expires in June, and Brendan Rodgers says the club will open talks with the defender, who is currently out injured, in due course.
