RUSH DOES NOT WANT TO SEE MOHAMED SALAH LEAVE THE CLUB
Liverpool legend Ian Rush has made it clear that he does not want Mohamed Salah to leave the club under any circumstances, even if it means the Egyptian surpasses his own goal-scoring record.
Rush, who holds the record for Liverpool’s all-time top scorer with 346 goals, is closely followed by Roger Hunt, who scored 285 goals. Salah, with 242 goals, currently sits third on the list, but his future at the club is uncertain as his contract expires this summer.
Despite Salah’s stellar performances, which have helped Liverpool maintain a significant lead in the Premier League this season, there is no guarantee that he will remain at Anfield. The 32-year-old’s contract situation has raised speculation about a potential move.
However, Rush has expressed a desire for Salah to stay, acknowledging their close relationship and stating that records are meant to be broken, but only if they come with trophies. Speaking to Amazon Prime ahead of Liverpool’s Champions League clash with PSG, Rush said: “No, without a doubt [Rush wants Salah to stay].”
He added, “I’m a great believer that records are there to be broken, but you’ve gotta be winning trophies. I’m a good friend of Mohamed as well, so if you do it, make sure you’re winning trophies!”
Rush also mentioned that it could take around three more years for Salah to break his record, but he emphasized the importance of enjoying the player’s current form.
The situation remains complicated for Liverpool, as replacing Salah’s contributions would likely cost a fortune. The lure of a potential move to Saudi Arabia could be a tempting offer for the Egyptian, but Salah has publicly expressed his desire to stay at Liverpool.
As the Reds push for a Premier League title this season, it remains to be seen whether Salah’s future lies at Anfield or elsewhere, but Rush’s sentiment is clear: he hopes Salah will stay and continue making an impact.
