Skrtel ‘to leave Liverpool in January’
Martin Skrtel is set to secure a move away from Liverpool when the transfer window reopens in January, according to the Daily Star.
The defender was expected to leave Anfield in January, with Napoli strongly linked with a move for the Slovakia international.
In Kolo Toure, Mamadou Sakho and Tiago Ilori, the Reds brought in three new centre-backs this summer, though Skrtel impressed in his one and only appearance this season – the 1-0 victory over Manchester United ten days ago.
The 28 year old was drafted in to the first team following Kolo Toure’s injury, but the Ivory Coast international looks likely to be fit for Monday’s trip to Swansea City.
Meanwhile, the Daily Star also understand that the club have been linked with a move for CSKA Moscow’s Keisuke Honda.
Arsenal and Everton are also said to be interested in the Japan international, who has admitted that he will not be signing a new deal to remain in Russia.
Elsewhere, Atletico Madrid striker Diego Costa admitted that he was close to signing for the Reds in during the transfer window, according to Sky Sports.
The Brazilian eventually chose to reward the loyalty the La Liga club showed in him by remaining in the Spanish capital with Diego Simeone’s side.
